Decent Bassist/Mediocre Guitarist Wants To Start Old School Punk Band
Meets
Gainesville FL
Description
Howdy. I am a 45 year old bassist (and to a lesser extent, guitarist) looking to start an old-school style punk band, (or ska!!! God, I'd love to be in a ska-punk band!! I don't know any horn players though... But if you play horns... Yeah!) I have years of experience under my belt (lots and lots of years. You saw the part about being 45, right?) and I have played in bands that have gone on to enough success to record and nationally tour. First things first though: I am not so punk that I like being unemployed, broke, spit on at shows (great way to get hepatitis!), punched in the face, etc. I am responsible enough that I dropped the touring lifestyle to get a real job, get married, get a mortgage. You know, all that real life stuff. However, I do still love to play and wouldn't mind doing weekend shows in or around the Gainesville area. (Or we could simply play to ourselves..) In other words, I don't want "musician" to be my primary job title. It's more of a hobby at this point. Over the years I have accumulated my share of equipment so my bass/guitar rigs are pretty good. Gets the job done, anyways. I can sing some backup though you would not want me to be the primary singer as A: I suck and B: I have, what some refer to as a "Southern Accent". (I grew up in a small southern town so I'm not gonna sound Irish, geniuses...) I have no problems with sounding southern but, even though we are in the South, people still act like I'm the anomaly. To which I respond they can fu*k back off to Michigan or wherever.. Anywho.. Bands I wish I was in and/or sounded like: The Ramones (of course), the Descendents, Circle Jerks, the Dead Milkmen, NOFX, Rancid, Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, etc... If this is something you wouldn't mind doing, hit me up and we can go from there. I don't care how old or young you are, male, female, (a little column "A", a little column "B"), straight, queer, neither, both, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, etc.- I don't care. (Just don't be "agnostic". That just means you're a wussy atheist.) If you are fun to be around then nothing else matters. Obviously we would need a drummer, guitarist, flutist, and so forth. If you want to play, I'll find a role for you. Practice space and such would be easy enough to work out and I would set that up. Let's have some fun with this!
