This year's Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 31 at 10a. The parade theme is 'Honor Our Veterans - Support Our Troops', and we honor the men and women who died while serving in this country’s armed forces. Please note: No bands will be allowed this year, however, drum lines or drum corps are encouraged to apply Wearing of masks is mandatory and social distancing is required _____ Details: On May 4th, Mayor Rilling approved the Memorial Day Parade for Norwalk. The parade will be held on Monday, May 31st. The start time is 10:00 a.m. The route is to turn right at the boat launch entrance to Vets Park, right on Van Zant Street, and left on East Avenue all the way to the Town Green. The reviewing stand will be at City Hall. Co-Grand Marshals are three 100-year-old WWII veterans -- Nick Samodel (Army Air Force), Andrew Mantlik (Army), and John Kozar (USMC). [View Parade Route] Veteran Parade Participation: If you are a veteran who is unable to walk the parade route (1.7 miles), there will be convertibles at the American Legion Post 12 Norwalk CT (60 County Street) to take you through the parade route. Show time is 8:30 a.m. Parade Participation: Organizations interested in marching in the parade are asked to please read and agree to our standing parade policies before submitting your application. [Parade Policies] [Application] COVID-19 Guidance: Since the event is outdoors and given the fact that the risk is so much lower than indoors, fully vaccinated people can attend/participate without wearing masks. For those who aren’t fully vaccinated, they should be wearing a mask to be consistent with recommendations from the CDC for attending a larger event. Event After the Parade: American Legion Post 12 Norwalk CT (60 County Street) will be hosting an event after the parade in the downstairs hall. One free hot dog and a beer. When the beer runs out, there will be a cash bar available. This is a no-smoking event. Norwalk Remembers: A website has been launched that contains a bio for every Norwalk resident who died during wartime, as well as Purple Heart Medal recipients and all who were POWs in WWII.
