This free program continues on Tuesday, May 25, at noon, with an “Exercise Your Independence” session at the Woodward Public Library, presented by ISU Extension Nutrition and Wellness Specialist Mary Krisco. “Usually,” Krisco said, “most people in their 50s and 60s are unaware of the simple, enjoyable things they can do now to preserve their health and reduce their risk of frailty in their 70s, 80s and beyond. For example, doing weight-bearing exercises daily can help people maintain their balance and strength, to prevent fatigue and falls in later life. “In these sessions, you’ll take part in an interactive discussion that includes hands-on activities and taste testing,” Krisco said. “It’s a fun way to spend your lunch hour! This coming Tuesday, May 25, participants will sample a delicious strength-building smoothie and practice stretch band exercises. They’ll go home with their own stretch bands and an exercise guide written specifically for those over 50.” Although the series is free, you must register to attend. You may register for the entire series or for whichever sessions most interest you: May 25: Exercise Your Independence June 1: Brain Health June 8: Cooking for One or Two To register for this session of the “Stay Independent: A Healthy Living Series,” call the Woodward Public Library at (515) 438-2636.
