4-H2O is a hands-on science inquiry program that provides children ages 9-13 with knowledge about their local water resources. 4-H2O is a youth education program that has been held annually across the state for more than 12 years. It is a water-based science camp that runs in more than 15 counties across South Carolina, allowing students an opportunity to learn and experience this state’s water resources first-hand. This year, due to COVID restrictions, 4-H2O will be a Workshop Week, with 3 days of hands-on environmental education for kids ages 9-13. Each session will be at a different location. No transportation will be provided this year. The workshop week is limited to 10 participants. Participants must be dropped off and picked up at each day's location: Monday, June 28th: James Island County Park Wednesday, Jun 30th: North Charleston (location within North Charleston TBD) Friday, July 2nd: Isle of Palms Marina Drop off: 8:30-9 am each day Pick up: 2 pm each day Activities will include a boat ride, fishing clinic, exploring water quality, and more! Participants must be, or become, 4-H members to participate. 4-H membership is $15 for the year (September 1-August 31) and includes a t-shirt. You can register any time at https://v2.4honline.com. You must complete your 4-H membership registration by June 22nd. What to Bring: Participants must bring their own lunch and reusable water bottle. Snacks and water will be provided. Participants should also bring suncreen, a hat, bug spray, and any medications your child needs. What NOT to bring: Digital devices (cameras/phones), weapons, toys/games, anything that cannot get wet. Other Important Information: This is an outdoor water exploration camp. Youth will need to be dressed to explore the outdoors, including close-toed shoes. Each days’ activities are different, parents will be notified when sandals, towels, or swimwear are needed. Refund Policy: 4-H membership dues are not prorated and are non-refundable. If you cancel a camp spot more than 2 weeks before the start date, a full refund may be given. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks and more than 1 week before the start date, you may receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given within 1 week from the start date. COVID-19 Rules: Dear 4-H Family: We have received approval to hold the 4-H2O Workshop Week in-person on June 28th, 30th, and July 2nd. To get permission to hold this in-person activity, your volunteers and agent had to prepare and submit a detailed plan of how we will work together to keep everyone safe and well. The plan was approved, and we can now make final preparations for our 4-H activity. We will need the help and cooperation of everyone to make this activity a success. Please read this email carefully so you know all the details and what you will be asked to do it you attend. Stay-Home Directive All individuals participating agree to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (symptoms typically include fever, cough, and shortness of breath) for 14 days before AND after participating in or attending this 4-H activity. Parents/legal guardians are required to consult their child’s medical provider to determine if their child has medical conditions putting them at an enhanced risk of COVID-19 morbidity/mortality. Parents/legal guardians will be asked to assess their youth and will be required to self-disclose on the following items. If you fall within any of the categories below, you will not be permitted to engage in this 4-H activity: Individuals who currently or within the past 14 days have experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, which include fever, cough, and shortness of breath among others (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html); or Individuals who believe that they may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not yet cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities or their physician; or Face Coverings Face coverings, that cover participants’ mouth and nose at all times, are required in all indoor settings, and also in outdoor settings where social distancing requirements cannot be ensured. If you are not able or willing to wear a mask or face covering the entire time, you cannot attend this 4-H activity. Physical Distancing Everyone who participates in this 4-H activity will be required to practice physical distancing. This means everyone must stay at least 6 feet apart from everyone else. This may be a challenge, but we can do it. We will use tools and guides to remind everyone to keep our distance during this 4-H activity. Hygiene & Sanitation Everyone who participates in this 4-H activity will be expected to practice good hygiene habits. Access to handwashing stations or hand sanitizer will be provided for all participants. All common and high-touch surfaces, indoor spaces, restrooms, and play equipment will be sanitized as recommended by the CDC before the activity, as needed throughout, and at the end of the activity. Any shared equipment or materials will be sanitized between users. The 4-H volunteer will have cleaning supplies on the list of products pre-approved by the EPA for use against COVID-19 and will conduct the cleaning. before and after the event.
