Description

The young Garden City team got their bats going right from the first inning, scoring in each of the first three innings. The biggest outburst was a 7-run third inning. Big innings are not unusual for the girls as they have had innings of 10 and 9 runs in previous wins. The game featured another solid pitching performance as junior Avery Hearon started and went 5 strong innings for the win. Hearon was followed to the mound by freshman Elizabeth Marshall, who hurled the last two scoreless innings. The defense up the middle was solid throughout the game from shortstop Ellie Pamatat, centerfielder Amelia DiChiara, second baseman Olivia O'Donohue and catcher Sophia Makrinos. On the offensive side of the boxscore, Garden City received solid hitting up and down their lineup, with some excellent base running to help keep the pressure on the Valley Stream defense. The hitting was led by Hearon, Makrinos, DiChiara, and Rebecca Barry. On the bases, the speed and aggressiveness came from outfielders Kate Pogozelski and Ryan Sievers, as well as first baseman Isabella Scianablo and Danielle Parrella.
