Sisters of Mercy located in Burlingame, CA has an immediate opening for a full time Groundskeeper. This position will provide routine grounds maintenance and assist with the upkeep of the Campus grounds. Essential Job Functions: 1. Mows and trims lawns, repairs established lawns, seeds or sods new lawns. 2. Plants or transplants shrubs, plants, and trees as directed. 3. Prunes or trims trees and shrubs as needed. 4. Keeps flower beds, lawns, and shrubbery areas free of weeds. 5. Inspects and chemically sprays trees, shrubs, plants and lawns when instructed. 6. Assists with the maintenance of the irrigation system. 7. Assists in the repair of grounds maintenance equipment. 8. Keeps all exterior areas clean, free from debris and in good repair. 9. Performs all tasks in a safe and professional manner. 10. Ensures that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift. 11. Ensures that in work/assignment areas equipment tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the workday. 12. Follows established fire safety policies and procedures. 13. Follows established safety precautions and wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies as needed (e.g. back brace, ear and eye protectors, etc.) when using equipment and supplies. 14. Ensures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and attractive manner. 15. Keeps work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding broom, rake, and hoe handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc. 16. Follows proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refers to established instructions or manufacturer’s instructions when necessary. 17. Reports all hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor. 18. Reports missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals to supervisor. 19. Follows established hand-washing procedures. 20. Attends departmental and staff meetings as directed or called. 21. Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed. 22. Performs other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager. 23. Performs other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager to assist with the safety of the Sisters of Mercy and their environment. * *These tasks do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job. Position Qualifications: Required High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years of groundskeeping experience with one of these years in a commercial or institutional setting preferred. Possesses generalized basic knowledge of the practices, and methods used in gardening and landscaping maintenance. Possesses the ability to operate the equipment associated with gardening and landscaping maintenance. Demonstrates the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must possess a valid California driver's license without any moving violations. Physical Requirements • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift/carry and push/pull objects more than 50 pounds. • Frequently sits and stands for long periods of time and remains in uncomfortable positions for that amount of time, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. • Must be willing to and able to work on ladders. • Frequently exposed to fluctuating temperatures, dust, weather conditions and chemicals used in the normal grounds keeping functions. • The work environment may at times be very loud. • Frequent use of inter-facilities vehicles, computer monitors, grounds operating equipment such as mowers, edger’s, etc., hand and power tools, and occasionally lifting machinery.
