Job Title: Court Utility Worker (Limited Term) Closing Date/Time: Fri. 06/11/21 11:59 PM Pacific Time Salary: $21.69 Hourly $1,734.89 Biweekly $3,758.93 Monthly $45,107.17 Annually Job Type: Limited Term Location: Superior Court of CA, County of Santa Clara, California Department:Court Support Services DEFINITION: Under general supervision, this support position performs a wide variety of building maintenance, moving, cleaning, minor repair to Court buildings, and grounds maintenance at Court facilities. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Court Utility Worker classification is responsible for performing maintenance, moving, cleaning, minor repair to Court buildings and grounds maintenance at Court facilities. Incumbents may be a liaison between the Superior Court and Santa Clara County General Services Division and may be required to lead or coordinate a work crew. This current recruitment is for Day shift. Limited Term - Individual is hired for a specific term subject to an extension at the end of the term at the Court's discretion. Typical Tasks/Representative Duties: TYPICAL TASKS: - Moves and arranges furniture and office equipment, assembles reconfigured systems furniture; - Carries, stacks, and labels incoming cartons; - Transports records from offices to storage areas; - May drive a pick-up, light truck with hydraulic lift, or forklift to haul materials and supplies, furniture, computer equipment, trash, and cuttings; - Loads and unloads trucks; works on ledges, scaffolding, or extension ladders to wash exterior windows and washes interior windows; - May act as a liaison between the Court and the skilled crafts workers; - Performs minor maintenance to mechanical equipment and building fixtures (such as: replacing washers and broken switch plates, light bulbs and tubs, hoods, and exhaust vents); cleans filters, grease traps, oils fans and motors; - Assembles and paints benches, tables, and general touch-ups; - Cuts, waters, rakes, and weeds grass, plants, shrubs, and trees; - Operates grounds keeping power tools (i.e. mowers, edgers, tillers, aerators, sprayers, chain saws, and vacuums); - May assist in the repair and installation of sprinkler systems; - Sweeps sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and entrances ways; - Picks up rubbish and paper; - Makes minor repairs to chairs, filing cabinets, and desk; - Performs other related duties as required. Employment Standards/Typical Qualifications: EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge and abilities are typically obtained by a minimum of one year of experience in general maintenance work. A California Driver’s license and a good driving record is required. Employees in this classification may be required to use their own vehicle to travel between facilities. KNOWLEDGE OF: - Traffic laws and vehicle operation; - The operation of forklifts and other machinery used in the movement of heavy equipment; - Basic knowledge of proper bending and lifting methods to avoid injuries. ABILITY TO: - Understand and follow written and oral instructions; - Work independently; - Exercise physical exertion in the movement of moderately heavy or bulky supplies; - Understand and follow oral and simple written instructions; - Work under pressure; adapt to varying circumstances, and use sound judgment in the performance of duties; - Work cooperatively and get along with others. Supplemental Information: WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents in this position may be assigned to work in a number of environments. These environments may include inside or outside a courthouse, inside or outside an office building; or at a warehouse with limited exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, dust, fumes, odors, and noise. The ability to work alone and with others is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Specific tasks and duties may vary among assignments; however, the following are considered essential functions expected of the Utility Worker classification: Have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs; Communicate effectively with others. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as: files, stacks of paper, reference books, and other materials; - Frequent need to reach for items above and below desk level; - Standing for long periods of time is periodically required. EXAMINATION: A screening panel will be convened to select those applicants deemed most qualified to participate in a written and/or oral examination.
