Southwest Airlines Ramps Up Direct Flights From San Diego To Hawaii

By Chris Jennewein, Times of San Diego May 20, 2021 Southwest Airlines plans to dramatically increase service from San Diego to Hawaii this summer, adding flights to Kauai, Maui and Kona on the big island, as well as a second flight daily to Honolulu. The new service begins in June and frequencies will increase in September, at which point all locations will be served daily. "With Southwest Airlines' added flights, San Diego International Airport now has more service to Hawaii than we've ever had in the past," said Kimberly Becker, President and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, on Wednesday. "We expect these flights to be very popular as people continue to visit destinations that can offer an abundance of outdoor recreation. We appreciate Southwest Airlines' continued commitment to our community," she said. Airport officials noted that while COVID travel restrictions have eased, the state of Hawaii requires temperature screening upon arrival.
