Description
Established pro (with a day job) guitarist/singer/songwriter looking for a bassist to establish the core of a jam band, for lack of better definition. I am looking for someone conversant with a range of styles who is as comfortable playing great songs as improvising in the moment. I envision this project taking multiple contexts: full electric band, acoustic combo, acoustic duo at times. Basically, I love to play and want to find as many ways to do it as possible. If you are in other projects, that is no issue for me. I am in a busy bar band and play solo gigs, in addition to recording, a day job, and other interests.
I am starting with a bass player because I figure we would be the harmonic core of whatever happens. I know several drummers who can be brought in either for gigs or long-term. It is easier for them to fit in without knowing all the details of the music. The bassist and guitarist need to build a common vocabulary and an ability to communicate.
I have considered covers that can please a wide variety of listeners and allow for improv, if the context calls for it. I would like to record some original songs in this project as well. I can produce broadcast-ready recordings. My original music has been featured in TV and film.
OK – if you haven’t grown completely weary of reading this dissertation yet, here are some reference points: The Dead/JBG, Dylan, Tedeschi Trucks, Phish, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, moe., Widespread Panic, Goose, etc. No real surprises there. As a guitarist, I was in awe of the late Neal Casal. I have been playing gigs long enough to kind of have my own thing, though, as a singer and guitarist. I’m not saying it is a great thing, but it’s a thing, at least, I hope.
So, sorry to go on and on, but this might save some time if you think this type of concept is/is not for you. I can/will provide web video, website, recordings, etc. on request. Ideally, you would be able to provide the same. Thank you.
