Description
DERRY, NH — Derry fire, and police responded to a reported house fire on High Street on Thursday.
Upon arrival, they had heavy fire showing from the rear of a large victorian style house. Firefighters began running lines while other crews began to search the building for occupants. A second alarm was requested for additional manpower and apparatus to assist at the scene and cover Derry's fire stations.
Firefighters were challenged with the fire that had extended into several walls, ceilings, and the attic. The extreme heat required that fire crews be rotated frequently due to the intensity. A third alarm was requested for additional manpower to allow additional rotations of the fire crews.
Firefighters remain on the scene at this time chasing "hot spots" and investigators will begin to search for the cause and origin of the fire.
Neighbors reported a propane tank and possible grill on fire at the rear of the house in the same area where crews arrived at the intense fire.
Several firefighters were medically evaluated at the scene, and cooling stations with water were set up. It does not appear any firefighters or civilians required medical transport.
More than 10 cities and towns responded mutual aid to assist.
