FRANKFORT, IL — Since 2015, the National Junior Honor Society has presented the Outstanding Achievement Award to 500 exceptional NJHS students across the country. This year, Hickory Creek eighth graders Rachel Bacon, Kaitlyn Skopek, Noelani Hill, Addison Bohash, and Blaine Zekarias were recognized for their dedication to the National Junior Honor Society pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship, the district said in a release. According to the district, half of the students from Illinois chosen to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award were from Hickory Creek Middle School. In order to be eligible for the award, students must be in good standing with their NJHS chapter and send in a recommendation letter, the district said. Each student chosen receives $500, which is placed in a college savings fund account to help middle school students jump start their journey to higher education.
