Press release from Ramsey County: May 18, 2021 The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed May as American Indian Heritage Month. This is the first time the proclamation has been made in the county. The county recognizes American Indian Month as an important time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions and histories of American Indian people, as well as to acknowledge their important contributions. The land known as present day Ramsey County is located on the ancestral and contemporary lands of American Indian people, and home to the American Indian people of Turtle Island since time immemorial, and without whom, the building of this county would not have been possible and holds great historical, spiritual, and personal significance for its original stewards. Commissioner McDonough read the proclamation while Sheri Riemers, Chair of Saint Paul Indians in Action and Director of Government and Community Relations at Ain Dah Yung Center; Kelly Miller, Vice Char of Saint Paul Indians in Action and Director of Indian Work at Interfaith Action; and other community partners offered remarks.
