Description

Hayes Window Restoration is the Twin Cities’s leading window restoration company. We are growing our business and looking to hire great people to add to our already amazing team. We love old houses and we love to work hard restoring their original charm. Our work requires a true desire to work with one’s hands, the ability to learn quickly, and the propensity to work independently with great attention to detail. We are currently hiring 1-2 shop technicians to perform window sash restoration and repair work in our 4,000 square foot restoration workshop in south Minneapolis. As a shop technician, you’ll be performing the hands-on restoration work to bring new life to historic (pre-1940) window sash that will later be installed by our field technicians. You will take window sash through the entire restoration process, from stripping paint, putty, and stain, to light woodworking and epoxy repairs, cutting glass and replacing broken panes, to new putty and finish work that includes shellac/staining and painting. We work in small teams where everyone gets trained in all areas of window sash restoration. Due to this approach, there is a lot of variety in the tasks you will learn and perform daily. Seeing these projects through to completion is hugely rewarding to those who value the character of old houses and who share our desire to keep our city’s existing building materials intact and viable for future generations. Because of the depth of training involved, we hope to add people to our team who will find this work as rewarding as we do and who can stick with our company as a great way to grow and make a steady income with predictable hours. With experience on our team, leadership opportunities will become available for the right individuals. Qualifications: Eager to learn and able to pick up new skills Hard working with a generally positive attitude Know when to ask questions and seek guidance from colleagues Ability to persevere in the face of challenges Great attention to detail Can work well with others and communicate effectively Share our company values of inclusion, integrity, dependability, and responsibility Ability to meet deadlines and keep a steady, productive pace Prior experience with glazing/putty, painting, or woodworking is preferred but not required. More important than prior experience is the right attitude and aptitude to learn our restoration approach. Position requirements: Ability to carry 50 pounds for up to 50 feet Ability to wear a respirator during paint removal work Willingness to participate in our lead safety program, including blood lead level monitoring Ability to work independently once trained Self-motivated Punctual Ability to work on your feet for an 8 hour work day Steady hand work with glazing knife and paint brush, or ability to learn Starting pay: $16/hour with raises for performance and proficiency, up to $20/hour Bonuses: performance and production bonuses Paid time off/sick days: 80 hours/year (2 weeks annually) for full time, or equivalent Retirement savings: IRA with company match upon qualifying Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00-4:30, some flexibility permitted to allow for the demands of life outside of work. This is a full-time, year-round position. To apply, submit your resume and a cover letter telling us why you are interested in working with historic windows.
