Description
I am a Drummer using Jacktrip to play with other musicians over the net. I have been interested in this idea from early on, and I’ve looked at jamkazam and other technologies, but now I think Jacktrip has the advantage.(Please see the links below for more information on the technology). I have bought the VSD box from them (Amazon $150) which links the musician to the net, and it works very well… I have fast Internet service and it looks like I should be able to play successfully with musicians in a roughly 250 mile radius from Chicago where the nearest Jacktrip server is… this will cover most of Ohio and Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc. There are no fees for hooking up to the server and playing.
I have tried “jamming“ using this technology, but I am not really into jamming that much… I’m more into “working up“ songs to build up a decent playlist. I’m looking for musicians who would like to do the same… i’ve decided that a good way to do that would be for me to work on the songs online on a regular basis (practice) and invite musicians to first “ watch and listen in“ via zoom.
I’ll choose some songs to work on at first, and practice online accompanied by studio music tracks (minus drums). There is a track for each instrument and microphone, and I can mute them. If someone has the Jacktrip connection, and wants to join in, I can mute the track for their instruments and we can all play together! My goal is to get enough players so that we can mute all the tracks eventually…
If you already have Jacktrip, I can invite you to join in my practice sessions, as well as invite others to watch and listen on zoom only (The sound won’t be so good, but you’ll get the idea).
