Description

Join Bold City Contemporary Ensemble and a variety of female poets for a special audial response to MOCA's featured women's exhibition. Returning for their second Sound Gallery performance, Bold City Contemporary Ensemble (BCCE) and its founder and clarinetist, Boja Kragulj, present in partnership with MOCA a dynamic evening of music and poetry featuring works by international and regional female artists inspired by works in the featured exhibition Romancing the Mirror. Female composers from around the world responded to public call for compositions to complement artworks currently on view at MOCA Jacksonville. These compositions will be performed by BCCE with special call and response performances by Jacksonville-based poets Alisha Lockley, Taryn "Love Reigns" Wharwood, Yvette Angelique, Hadley Hendrix, and Tiffany Melanson. We invite you to join us on the evening of May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. to eat, drink, and celebrate female contemporary artists across genres in our 3rd floor galleries. Please dress in creative semi-formal attire. Masks are highly encouraged for guests attending this event. The Bold City Contemporary Ensemble: We a group of highly trained and experienced classical musicians who believe passionately that our tradition can be successfully continued through the performance of very new music.  For all those who say classical music is dying, we vehemently disagree and prove the opposite is true through a series of engaging, outside-the-box performances.  Think you know classical music and how we play? Think again! Modular in design, the ensemble ranges in size from 2–13 players, accommodating instrumentation for a variety of newly composed works.  Our flexibility is an asset as we travel locally inside Jacksonville and nationally to serve communities and interests that are drastically under-exposed to the arts. Without the constant, strict formality of a concert-hall, we interact with our listeners to create an immersive, all-sensory experience.
