Description
Hon. Stephanie Coleman is being honored by the Focus Fairies as one of the trailblazing women who are making an impact in their community. Alderman Stephanie D. Coleman proclaimed an “a history-maker” by The Chicago Citizen. The Chicago Tribune called her “a go-getter”. The Chicago Sun-Times wrote she “shows real energy and a sincere interest” in working hard for the constituents, she now represents. 16th Ward Alderman and Democratic Committeeman Stephanie D. Coleman, a statuesque millennial, is now the youngest African American member in the HERstory of the City of Chicago City Council, winning endorsements from all three of these influential newspapers and garnering a decisive 67% of the votes in the last municipal election. Alderman Coleman is the founder and CEO of the Sons and Daughters of Englewood (S.A.D.E.), she served as Vice President of the Moran Park Advisory Council, and an active participant in Residents Association Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.). Stephanie Coleman is driven by the philosophy of CommUNITY, bringing neighbors together by hosting many popular events such as community picnics and an annual Seniors and Veterans Ball. Alderman Coleman currently serves on five city committees, and is the Vice Chair of the City of Chicago Aldermanic Black Caucus. Focus Fairies Mentoring, seeks to provide one-on-one and community mentorship opportunities to girls 7-14 who live in Chicago communities plagued by violence. The organization was established in 2017 and has been consistently expanding its base of community support -- over 100 at-risk Chicagoland girls have received direct mentorship from one of Focus Fairies’ volunteers. We teach our fairies the skill sets needed to strengthen their self-awareness, become effective leaders and servants to their community. Our vision is to become a game changing mentoring and personal development organization for girls. Ultimately, we want to establish an organization that builds girls of character, integrity, and self-confidence. We just do not want to appear capable; we want to be inspirational and prove it.
