Description
Enjoy the rich African American cultural traditions. Presented by Triad Cultural Arts with partners Food Lion & the City of Winston-Salem. The 2021 Juneteenth Festival will be hybrid. The in-person event will be held at Innovation Quarter -- Biotech Place from 12 – 5 pm and Bailey Park from 12 pm – 7:00pm. You can also experience parts of the festival virtually on the Triad Cultural Arts Facebook page & YouTube Channel. Due to COVID guidelines, registration is required for this free event. Biotech Place - 12 pm - 5 pm -- Register to attend these events: 12:00 pm - Opening program with Libation by Dr. Felecial Piggott Anderson, Greetings from Local and State Officials, History and performance of Negro Spirituals by Mary Dobbin Williams, Sophia Feaster, Lawrence and Mae Burner from the North Carolina Black Repertory's "Mahalia." 1:00 pm - Early Black Builders of Salem and The Winston-Salem Youth Symphony will perform an excerpt from work by 18th-century Black violinist, composer, swordsman, and activist, Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. 2:00 pm - Men's Health Panel - Sponsored by Wake Forest Baptist Health. Dr. Brenda Latham-Sadler is the moderator. Dr. Rechelle Tull, Chief Resident in Dermatology will discuss skin care and other related topics, and Dr. Jamy Ard, Professor, Epidemiology and Prevention, will discuss heart-health. Guest vocalist will perform Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father" as a Father's Day tribute. 3:00 pm - Poetic Journey through Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter. Hear from the Youth and Teens from our community! 4:00 pm - Billie Holiday's songs will be performed by local jazz vocalist, Janice Price. A conversation will be held with community professionals on the topic: Will We Overcome? – Cultural Healing from Historical and Modern Racism. Bailey Park - 12 pm - 7 pm - Please note that you may experience a wait time to enter the park due to COVID-19 restrictions. Luci Vaughn Nubian Marketplace - Merchandise Vendors, Exhibits, Food Trucks, Youth Area, Live DJ, African Dance, Historic Games and more!
