Whether you create your own relief kitchen and operation or help WCK run ours when we're in your area, we'll give you all the tools you need to do it successfully. Learn how we implement emergency food relief activations at scale directly from one of our Chef Relief Team instructors. Your training includes lunch and snacks on both days. Learn in depth how to innovate, adapt, and be resourceful from a world-leading disaster relief organization. About World Central KitchenFounded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. WCK has created a new model for disaster response through its work helping devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems. WCK has served more than 50 million meals to people impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world in countries including The Bahamas, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mozambique, Venezuela, and the United States. About NOCHINew Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute (NOCHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that educates a diverse community of learners to sustain an ever-evolving hospitality industry. NOCHI offers a platform for professional and personal growth, increasing access and minimizing barriers to career pathways while supporting the promotion and economic development of the culinary arts and hospitality industry. NOCHI is dedicated to disaster relief and has partnered with World Central Kitchen to feed people affected by Hurricane Barry as well as COVID-19. In November 2020, NOCHI was involved in a World Central Kitchen initiative to feed people waiting in line at the election polls. From July 2020 through May 2021, NOCHI also partnered with the City of New Orleans, Chef's Brigade, Revolution Foods, and a coalition of 70+ local restaurants on the COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program, a program that fed approximately 1.5M meals to neighbors in need. --- Course ScheduleBelow is an approximate outline of the two-day training. Day 1 9:00am Students arrive 9: 10 am Module 1 – Intro to WCK 9:35am Module 2 - Intro to Chef Relief Operations 10:15am Module 3 – Volunteers 10:45am Break 11:00am Module 4 – Food Safety and Sanitation 11:45am Activity – Sandwich Making 12:45pm Lunch Break 1:45pm Module 5 – Communications & Press 2:30pm Module 6 - Menu Planning: Preparation & Nutrition 3:30pm Module 7 - Procurement 4:00pm Dismissal Day 2 9:00am Students arrive 9:10am Module 8 - Food Distribution 10:00am Break 10:15am Classroom clean-up 10:30am Paella Making Activity 11:30am Lunch Break 2:30 pm Module 9 - Close Out & Questions 3:00pm Dismissal Check-In ProceduresUpon arrival, please enter through NOCHI's main entrance on Howard Avenue. Sign in at the front desk in the lobby, wash your hands, and proceed directly to McIlhenny Hall (5th floor). Class starts shortly after 9:00am. Masks are still required at NOCHI, and you are encouraged to bring your own water bottle.
