Clarkstown Central Budget Passes With 72 percent Voting 'Yes'

CLARKSTOWN, NY —Clarkstown Central School District residents approved a 2021-22 school budget on Tuesday. The $220.8 million proposed budget was approved with 72 percent of the vote (1,903 votes). The budget is a 3.75 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 2.50 percent hike in the school tax levy. That is within the state's 2.64 percent tax cap, so the budget only needed to be approved by a majority vote. Four candidates were running for three seats on the Board of Education. Incumbents Tamara "Tammy" Bierker, Irene Tagaris and Christine Alia were re-elected to three-year terms that begin in July. On Facebook, the district offered a "thank you" to everyone who played a role in the election. "As we end what was a truly challenging year in our school history, the show of support from our community is more important now than ever," the district wrote. "We thank all of the parents, students and Clarkstown community members for your involvement and the value you place on public education."
