Massapequa School Budget Passes; Incumbent Trustees Reelected

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Residents in Massapequa headed to the polls on Tuesday and approved the school district's proposed 2021-22 budget. The budget was approved by voters 2,397 to 997. The proposed spending plan for the 2021-22 school year is $210,511,077, which is an increase of 1.37 percent, or $2,835,431 over the current budget. To fund the increase, the district proposed a tax levy of $169,289,819, up 1.23 percent from the current year's, which the district says is the smallest tax levy increase in five years. In addition to the budget, residents also cast ballots for Board of Education trustees. There were three people running for two seats this year. Incumbent trustees Jeanine Caramore and Kerry Wachter were both returned to their seats, earning 2,492 votes and 2,375 votes, respectively. Challenger Gary Belgrod-Marshall earned 912 votes.
