OAK CREEK, WI — An Oak Creek doctor is facing state charges related to Medicaid fraud and identity theft, according to a criminal complaint submitted Tuesday. Farid A. Ahmad, M.D, is accused of billing Medicaid for services that were needless or not even provided. He is also accused of using an employee's identity to prescribe medications, according to the criminal complaint. "By holding those who commit Medicaid fraud accountable, our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit protects patients and the Medicaid program," Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said in a press release. Medicaid is a combined state-federal program that helps low-income individuals, families and the elderly afford necessary medical services. Doctors provide services to people then bill Medicaid for compensation. Ahmad overbilled Medicaid by more than $15,000, according to the criminal complaint. The criminal complaint also alleges Ahmad made frequent unnecessary home visits. These visits were for simple medical services but were frequently billed to Medicaid as longer, more expensive patient checkups, according to the criminal complaint.
