APPLETON, WI — Students 16 or older accessing or living on campus at Lawrence University will be required to show proof of their COVID-19 vaccination this June.
This is the first school in Wisconsin to have such a mandate. According to the university website, half of students learning on campus are already fully vaccinated.
"Science and evidence has shown us that the vaccine is the best mode we have at our disposal to mitigate the spread of the virus," Christyn Abaray, Assistant to the President at Lawton University said to WBAY NBC-15.
Students who can't get the vaccine for medical, religious or personal reasons can sign and submit a waiver.
75 percent of campus employees are vaccinated and faculty are highly encouraged to get vaccinated as well. Resources and clinic locations are being distributed online through the school for both students and staff.
