BCPS Offers 4 Days A Week In-Person Instruction To All

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Students enrolled in Baltimore County Public Schools can return to in-person learning four days a week, officials announced Wednesday night. The four-day-a-week option will be available to all students starting Monday, May 24. The news comes after elementary and public separate day schools have been open for four-day-a-week in-person instruction since Monday, May 10. Middle and high schools have been open for select students, according to a statement from Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS). "We are seeing many positive signs that we are moving towards a new day, and we are excited to welcome more students," BCPS Superintendent Darryl Williams said in a statement, noting the county was in the "orange zone" for coronavirus transmission. Based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the executive order issued May 14 by Gov. Larry Hogan, BCPS officials said they were updating protocols including reducing the distance required between students from 6 to 3 feet. Adults are still required to be 6 feet apart when possible. More details for families of middle and high school students on returning to school buildings for four-day-a-week instruction will come from individual schools.
