AUSTIN, TX — St. David's Medical Center—including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David's Georgetown Hospital—has been named among the nation's 100 Top Hospital, according to a study by IBM Watson Health. The study, which was released Thursday, spotlights the top-performing hospitals in the U.S. recognized for excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health. To earn the 100 Top Hospitals ranking, St. David's Medical Center garnered excellent results on key clinical and operational performance indicators including survival rates, patient complications, healthcare associated infections, 30-day mortality and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates, length of stay, throughput in emergency departments, inpatient expenses and ratings from patients. St. David's Medical Center also received a 2021 Everest Award, which recognizes hospitals that have earned the "100 Top Hospitals" designation and ranked among the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation for rate-of-improvement during a five-year period. Only 20 hospitals in the country received an Everest Award this year. Officials said the medical center was also surveyed across three components related to their impact on the community. These include assessing hospital contributions to community health as a provider of critical services for community health and preventive care; identifying ways that hospitals contribute to community health as a community partner teaming up with local organizations to implement critical programs; and focusing on ways that hospitals promote community health through their practices as anchor institutions supporting local economic and social progress. Hospitals received credit for meeting a certain number of best practice standards in each component as part of the survey scoring, officials said. This is the twelfth year that St. David's Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals. It is the second time St. David's Medical Center has received an Everest Award.
