SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Firefighters put out a fire that charred the upper floor of a three-story home in San Francisco's Cole Valley area on Wednesday morning. One person died in the fire after crews attempted to rescue them, officials said.
The two-alarm fire, which was reported around 6 a.m., prompted crews to evacuate residents at the rear of the home and close off a portion of Parnassus Avenue, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Residents were urged to avoid the area early Wednesday morning.
"We are saddened to confirm that after extensive efforts to save the victim's life, the victim succumbed to injuries," firefighters from the department's media team tweeted.
No residents were displaced in the fire. There was no other information immediately available Wednesday morning as the fire was still under investigation.
