By Jon DePaolis, the Richard Free Press: ORLAND PARK, Ill. – The Village of Orland Park is changing the location for its annual Taste of Orland Park Kid's Day. Previously, the event which takes place on the Saturday of the Taste, was held near High Point Elementary and Orland Jr. High School on West Avenue. But after a 7-0 vote Monday, May 17, the Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees approved moving the event to the north end of the Village green where the Taste is held. Trustee Cynthia Nelson Katsenes thanked staff for working on the change. "I think this is a great layout," she said. "A lot of thought went into it." The newly renamed Kid's Zone will take place from 1-4 p.m. on both Saturday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 8. It will feature three inflatables, games, pony rides, a balloon artist, bubble show, reptile petting zoo and a magic show, according to Village documents. The decision will cost the Village approximately $1,200 – which a Village memo on the project states can be covered by the decision to eliminate the Orland Park's Got Talent and Lip Sync contests, previously budgeted for $1,650.
