BEDFORD, NH — Police in Bedford made a quick recovery of a dog after it accidentally fell into a septic tank on County Road on Monday. Animal Control Officer Steven Paul and Officer Michael Heikkila were sent to the home around 2 p.m. for a report of a German Shepherd falling into a 500-gallon tank which was being serviced at the time. The dog was about six feet down into the tank. Paul, Heikkila, and the homeowner then used a catchpole to pull the 85-pound dog out of the tank. "We were just grateful to get the dog out and cleaned up," Heikkila said. Chief John Bryfonski commended the officers for acting swiftly to get the dog out of what could have been a hazardous situation. "Their actions ensured this incident ended in a happy reunion," he said. Police have determined the incident was an accident and no fault of the dog's owners. The dog was cleaned up and is reportedly doing well. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected]. View videos on Tony Schinella's YouTube.com channel or Rumble.com channel.
