DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The head of Delaware County's Park Police died Tuesday night after a fight with coronavirus.
Delaware County officials Wednesday said Delaware County Park Police Superintendent Scott Mahoney died due to complications from the virus.
Mahoney's career began in 1992 when he joined the Park Police at a patrolman, officials said.
He was sworn in as the Chief of the Delaware County Park police in 2019 after working his way up through the ranks.
Mahoney was also the founding member of the Delaware County Police Emerald Society.
In addition, he worked as a part-time patrolman for Aldan, Clifton Heights, Colwyn, and Millbourne, and as volunteer firefighter in Upper Darby.
He is survived by his mother Jean, his sister Kelly, his brother Chris, his wife Randi, and their four children Erin, Shamus, Rylie, and Kaylee.
"The County extends our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Scott, members of the Delaware County Park Police and County team, and to all of the law-enforcement partners who have worked with Scott over the years," officials said in a statement. "Rest in peace Superintendent Scott Mahoney."
