CHICAGO — A man suffered three gunshot wounds to the head while waiting at a red light on Lake Shore Drive near Chicago Avenue Tuesday night, police said. According to police, the 22-year-old Cicero man was shot after a person made "gang signs" and shouted gang slogans at him while paused at the stoplight at around 11:30 p.m. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to the nose, the left side of his head and a graze wound to the left eyebrow. Police later said he was in fair condition and that the young man called authorities himself once he drove to safety near the 600 block of Lake Shore Drive. The man was driving a red Altima and noticed white Buick SUV "following him closely," spokesperson Kellie Bartoli said in an email. Bartoli also said there were multiple people inside of the SUV, but that is wasn't clear whether the shooter was a man or a woman. The man's girlfriend was also in the car with him at the time of the shooting, but she was not injured. Detectives were able to pull bullet fragments from the driver's car and also have surveillance video from the city's security camera system, police said in a statement. Bartoli said police are investigating whether the shooting was gang related, but said the young man had no known gang affiliation.
