CHARLOTTE, NC — A driver that Charlotte police say was involved in an illegal street race is now wanted for arrest after another driver was seriously injured when he lost control of his vehicle at a high rate of speed early Sunday morning Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public's help locating Aaron Hall Duncan, 29, for his involvement in the crash, CMPD said. Duncan is known to drive a white Dodge Challenger with a Florida license plate, as well as a silver Dodge Challenger with a paper tag. He is also wanted for a previously unserved warrant for pre-arranged street racing, CMPD said. According to a police account, officers responded to the crash scene in the 6800 block of North Tryon Street shortly after 2 a.m. May 16, where they located a smashed 2009 Dodge Challenger in the road with substantial damage. The vehicle's driver, identified as Maurice Xavier Kelly, 24, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital by another driver. The initial investigation revealed that Kelly was traveling northbound on North Tryon Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the Challenger. He veered off the road, where he struck a construction fence, three trees, two metal light poles and rolled over before the vehicle came back to a rest in the roadway, CMPD said. "As a part of the continued investigation, detectives obtained evidence that led them to believe that Kelly and two other vehicles were racing directly before this crash," CMPD said. "Duncan was determined to be the driver of one of the other vehicles and warrants were issued for his arrest." Police have not yet identified the third driver. SEE ALSO: 60 Cars Seized By CMPD In Street Racing Crackdown Earlier this month, CMPD announced that it had seized more than 60 vehicles and issued more than 3,500 citations during a six-month crackdown on illegal street racing. During the sting, CMPD's identification of suspects led to Grand Jury indictments of 54 suspects on the charge of pre-arranged racing — a charge that authorizes the seizure of the vehicle used in the offense, CMPD said.
