Job Description:Kodak is Hiring! We are looking for a Railyard Operator to support our Kodak Rochester Facilities group As a member of Eastman Kodak Company’s Rail Team, you would support our tenants with the management and operation of all railroad movement, equipment, and track systems here at Eastman Business Park. Responsibility will include various phases of railroad track maintenance work to keep right of ways and switching equipment in good working condition, Operate track switches, coupling and uncoupling cars, perform other duties associated with movement of trains, cars and engines between our rail yards, and along the 13 miles of track we have internal to our site. JOB DUTIES Train OperationsConducts and or operates the movement of rail cars and the train movement as it relates to the placement or delivery of railroad cars.Signals crew member for movement of the engine by radio or hand/flag signals to indicate when to start, stop, back up or set/release brakes.Observes, interprets and relays arm, radio signals and other indications affecting movement of a train.Operates track switches, visually checks condition and direction to change the direction of the engine or cars. Apply or release hand brakes to switches.Reads and understands the rules, timetables, train orders, waybills, placards, safety instructions and other written or printed materials.Inspects the condition of the train, cars, and equipment in movement and while stationaryMay couple air and electrical connections between locomotives, other cars when making up trains.Provide Roadblock, Sign coordination, and installation.Track Maintenance and Equipment OperationHelps to rremove and replace railroad track components such as rails, ties, spikes, tie plates, etc.Perform minor maintenance of railroad switches, remove and install new switching units as required.Perform snow removal and salting duties to keep the switches and track areas clear and usable during the winter months.Maintain all tools and equipment in good operating condition. Clean, adjust and replace component parts on electrical, pneumatic and mechanically operated tools. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesConsiderable knowledge is required at the experienced level for most, and thorough knowledge is required at the advanced level for some job requirements. Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of Rail activities.Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies with regards to the train yard and rail systems.Some jobs require an employee to be exposed to inclement weather conditions.Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a train operations crew to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 25lbs/12kg, frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The associate is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Education RequiredEducational level typically acquired through the completion of high school or a 5 year hands on experience equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.3-5 years of experience operating a locomotive or as a conductor, switch person. Special Requirements, Licenses, and CertificationsNYS Drivers License, required.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by State of New York. Would be optional.
