I found a mystery rock

I was out in Goleta near Haskell’s and was gandering upon some driftwood and other rocks, etc. I found this rock near others away from the water, probably 30 feet above the tide-line at the time. The rock is the size of a golf ball, and is smooth with a spiral crystal in it, almost like a snail shell or a Norris’ Top Shell. I have no idea how this rock became a rock, or how this shell became a rock.... and how the hell did this quartz crystal get in there with such a tight line???? I hope someone out there that knows about the Earth can help figure this out. I am dumbfounded! Thank you in advance.
