One of the early pioneers of the Surface Creek Valley
Between 1820 and 1920 nearly 1 million people emigrated from Norway to the United States. Known as Sloopers, the Norwegians settled on farms and ranches predominantly in the Midwest.
Fortunately for the Surface Creek Valley two of those emigrants, Thor and Thomas Thompson, changed the face of Cedaredge with investments in ranch, residential, and commercial properties. Like most pioneer histories the Thompson story is full of hopes, tragedies, and just a little bit of scandal. Come share in their stories with SCVHS historian, Hope Waibel.
