A discussion about these amazing insects that can only be witnessed every 17 years. Welcome the perennial cicadas of Brood X back to Central Indiana with this family-friendly event at Oliver’s Woods. All ages are welcome to join us at our campfire circle for a presentation on these fascinating and beneficial insects. Our presenter is Dr. Elizabeth Barnes, an entomologist and ecologist from Purdue University. After the discussion, the attendees will have time to hike our property on their own to search for these special cicadas. All Ages Free of Charge - RSVP Required What to Expect Easy, 3/4 mile of trails over flat terrain. Dress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns, brush, poison ivy, ticks, and mosquitos (unfortunately leggings aren’t very protective).Wear closed-toed shoes that can stand up to mud. Springtime can be muddy, so wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty.Directions Oliver’s Woods is located at 8825 River Road Indianapolis, Indiana. Please park in the parking lot adjacent to I-465 and meet staff on foot in front of the house.
