Boleros, tangos, valses, and others, showcase engaging rhythms and melodies which bring alive the uniquely romantic spirit of the region’s music of the first half of the 20th Century. Romancero Latinoamericano is expressively performed by New York based Guatemalan violinist Sergio Reyes and Argentine pianist Emilio Teubal. Pieces like Ella, A Media Luz, and Por Una Cabeza, are faithfully revived by artists deeply invested in the history of the style. Reyes and Teubal offer a unique voyage through music which has defined generations, erased borders, and represented a singular Latin American identity. Amy McIntire is from West Virginia by way of Peterborough, and plays haunting ballads on the banjo. Her keen ear and documentarian sensibility makes her an unexpected though sublime addition to this program.
