MILFORD, MA — Milford's annual Memorial Day festivities will mostly return in 2021, just as the state is lifting all pandemic restrictions. For the second year, Milford will not have a Memorial Day parade, according to the Milford Veterans Advisory Council. The event was first called off in 2020 when the virus emerged. The 2021 Memorial Day observance will begin with a free breakfast for veterans at 8 a.m. at the Italian American World War Veterans, 40 Hayward Field. At 10 a.m., a memorial ceremony for veterans will be held at Calzone Park near the corner of Main and Beach streets. During the afternoon hours, residents can drop off U.S. flags at the Italian Vets hall to be disposed of properly. Milford's celebration will be held with pandemic precautions in mind, according to organizers. On May 29, all pandemic restrictions in Massachusetts will be lifted. "Although we still cannot have the traditional Memorial Day parade, we can gather together outside to pay our respects to family and friends who served and protected us and now preside over us from up above," the Milford Veterans Advisory Council said. "It is important for us to remember, recognize, and honor these men and women." In 2020, Milford did not host a gathering. Instead, Boy Scouts and residents placed flags on the graves of veterans around town.
