FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth voters overwhelming supported paying for a new roof for Teaticket Elementary School and also welcomed a new member to the select board. Residents voted 3,010-669 in favor of the new roof. The roof is the oldest in the school district. Teaticket Elementary was built in 1967 and still has its original roof. School officials estimated the project will cost about $3 million. In the select board race, Onjalé Scott Price defeated Michael Heylin for the seat, according to unofficial results for the 2021 town election. The select board race was the only contested seat in the election and saw an open race between Heylin and Price. According to unofficial results, Price finished with 2,697 votes, while Heylin garnered 1,265. Incumbent Select Board member Douglas Jones chose not to seek re-election. Price is the chief operating officer for Mizar Imaging in Woods Hole. She also serves on the Woods Hole Diversity Advisory Committee and the Falmouth Affordable Housing Committee. During her campaign, she identified securing more affordable housing as her most important issue. "This crisis affects our community in multiple ways, and tackling it would be beneficial to the entire community," Price said. "Affordable housing is about justice and equity. The people who make our economy thrive — teachers, police and service industry employees — deserve to live in the town they work." Heylin was a town meeting member for Precinct 5 and has run for several town positions over the years, including for the Select Board, Planning Board and Falmouth Library Board of Trustees.
