NEWCASTLE, WA — King County detectives, with help from search and rescue volunteers from King, Kitsap, Kittitas and Chelan County, discovered human remains earlier this month, which investigators may be linked to a suspected Newcastle killing last November. Detectives believe Tianyu "Tommy" Lyu, 24, was killed by two men in a Newcastle townhome, who then took the body to Chelan County. Authorities previously arrested both suspects in the chase, including one man arrested in China and another man arrested right before he boarded a plane in San Francisco bound for Taiwan. Until now, investigators had been unable to locate where Lyu was left. On May 5, search teams deployed at Nyson Creek, off Highway 2 in Chelan County, and searched over 13 miles. Investigators said the search was "a critical step in delivering closure and justice" for Lyu's family. On Tuesday, the King County Sheriff's Office confirmed that search crews successfully located human remains, presumed to be Lyu, but pending formal identification from the King County Medical Examiner's Office. Sheriff Mitzi Johanknecht thanked the search volunteers and detectives for their dedication, and the sheriff's office said more details about the case would be shared as they are available.
