HOWARD COUNTY, MD — With the lifting of some mask requirements in Maryland and Howard County comes the announcement that there will be an in-person Howard County Fair. The 2021 event marks the 75th fair, scheduled for Aug. 7-14 at the fairgrounds near West Friendship.
Fair organizers shared on Facebook that a brand new exhibition building will be opening this year and current plans call for livestock shows, special evening entertainment, horse shows, a demolition derby, highly anticipated fair food and more.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Howard County Fair was canceled. The board of directors instead hosted virtual events for 4-H members and held the youth livestock sale in-person with precautions in place.
Mickey Day, president of the Howard County Fair Board, explained on the fair's website last year that board members met to see if they could somehow proceed with the fair. Eventually, they realized that the event as a whole could not be safely held last year.
