Man Charged In 2 Shootings In 4 Days: Middletown Police

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man has been charged in connection with two shootings that happened within four days of each other in Middletown, according to police. Antwan Rufus, who was recently arrested in connection with a May 1 shooting on Williams Street, has been charged in a similar incident that happened April 28 on Maplewood Terrace, according to Lt. Brian Hubbs. On April 28, police responded to a report of a shooting on Maplewood Terrace around 10:45 p.m. Hubbs said several people were in the area at the time of the shooting but nobody was injured. Rufus, 33, was identified as the shooter and arrested on a warrant, according to Hubbs. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and commission of an A, B, or C felony with a firearm. Rufus is in the custody of the Department of Corrections in connection with the May 1 shooting on Williams Street where one person was injured. He was taken to Middlesex Superior Court by the Department of Corrections on Tuesday where his warrant was served, according to Hubbs. Rufus was held in DOC custody on a $250,000 court-set bond.
