TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two people were injured in a crash at Old Freehold Road and Whitty Road on Sunday afternoon when one vehicle turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Toms River police said.
Jamie Diaz, 33, and Jalil Wardak, 60, both of Toms River, were injured in the crash that was reported about 2:35 p.m. on Sunday, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
Diaz told police she was driving south on Old Freehold Road when Wardak made a left turn in front of her vehicle, resulting in the crash, Messina said.
Wardak was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of a large cut on his lower right leg, she said. Toms River EMS and RWJ Barnabas paramedics responded to aid the drivers.
Wardak received a citation for failure to yield to right-of-way at the intersection, she said.
The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater.
