BEACHWOOD, NJ — A pair of crashes disrupted traffic on the Garden State Parkway on Monday evening but there were no serious injuries, New Jersey State Police said Tuesday.
The first crash was reported at 6:49 p.m. at milepost 80.4 southbound in South Toms River, Sgt. Alejandro Goez said. A BMW 740 went off the road and through a guardrail and caught fire, he said.
The driver, who was alone in the car, was not injured and there were no other vehicles involved, Goez said.
The Beachwood Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The fire department said the car was heavily involved and had traveled through several sections of guardrail into the woods on the shoulder of the Parkway.
While authorities were dealing with the first crash, a second crash happened at milepost 80.8 southbound, Goez said.
The crash, reported at 7:24 p.m., involved several vehicles, but there were no serious injuries, he said.
The cause of the second crash remains under investigation.
The two crashes led to partial lane closures through the area, but all lanes of the Parkway reopened at 8:11 p.m., Goez said.
