CONCORD, NH — Thinking about Christmas in … May? Yes, if you enjoy artwork and want to support Granite State artists and craftsmen and women.
The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen has chosen its annual holiday ornament as part of its fundraiser to keep its galleries open and support the organization.
"Magic Remembered" is an ornament designed and hand-formed by Claire Renaud of Derry. She created the ornament based on her love of shapes found in nature. The second youngest of 16 children, Renaud's Magic Remembered features a 16-step process of leatherwork, a crafting process she has worked on for many years.
Previously, she also owned a costume shop for nearly three decades.
"Each ornament is a time-consuming labor of love — the leather needs to be carefully worked into shape," she said. "It's very challenging to color, decorate, and hand form each one of thousands of ornaments, but the results are exciting, and I'm honored to share it broadly this year."
The ornament is $25 and comes gift-boxed. It is available at all League galleries located in Center Sandwich, Concord, Hooksett, Littleton, Meredith, Nashua, and North Conway and on the League's online store, linked here. It will be available at the return of the Annual Craftsmen's Fair, scheduled for Aug. 7, to Aug. 15, at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury.
