Man Rescued From Car Submerged In Eagan Pond Monday

EAGAN, MN— Eagan police officers rescued a man from his car on Monday after it had driven off the road and into a pond near Byerly's. Officials said the man had a medical emergency while driving, causing him to swerve off the roadway and into the pond. Officials said that when first responders arrived, several bystanders flagged them down and showed them the location of the pond. A good Samaritan, later identified as city employee Bill Henk, was already in the water trying to see if the man was still in the car, officials said. Officials said that all the car doors were locked and windows were rolled up. The driver was unresponsive and still in his seatbelt, and the car was pointed nose-down and filling with water, officials said. First responders pushed the car closer to shore and broke the car window to open the door from the inside, officials said. The man was brought to a local hospital where he is now in stable condition, officials said. The Eagan Police Department thanked Henk and other first responders on its Facebook page. "We want to give a special thanks to the good Samaritan, who happens to also be a City of Eagan employee, the officers and the firefighter who jumped into the water without hesitation putting themselves at risk to save this person," the department said. "Thank you Officer Sean Farnham and Officer Luke Nelson, Firefighter James Guy and City Employee Bill Henk for your lifesaving efforts."
