TEMPE, AZ — The city of Tempe is ending its mask mandate on Friday for all that are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. The city said its mandate, which was originally put in place in June 2020, is still recommended for all that are unvaccinated. Businesses and schools in Tempe can still require patrons, students and staff to wear masks and Tempe police will continue to respond to calls from businesses about patrons that refuse to wear masks, the city said. Masks will still be required on all public transit, by federal order, and at Tempe Municipal Court, according to the city. Tempe joins Scottsdale and Pima County in dropping its mask mandate, with Phoenix and Tucson both weighing such an option at city council meetings in each city on Tuesday.
