Press release from the University of Alaska Anchorage: May 18, 2021 On Tuesday, May 18, UAA will partner with local law enforcement departments to facilitate a police training drill that will restrict some vehicle traffic on the east side of the Anchorage campus. While this is just a training exercise, it is designed to simulate real emergency situations. The campus community should be aware of the impact on UAA facilities and vehicle traffic but should not be alarmed by the increased presence of uniformed officials in the area. The UAA Police Department will join the Anchorage Police Department, FBI, Providence Alaska Medical Center security canines and Alaska Army National Guard in an exercise of their plans and training called Orca 2021. The exercise will simulate armed aggressor and car bomb scenarios. As a result, there will be a significant presence of uniformed officers, tactical vehicles and exercise personnel on campus throughout the day. Please note the following closures* for this exercise on May 18: *No facilities will be closed besides the Central Parking Garage and its area of the Spine. To accommodate enhanced deployment by the Army exercise team, the Central Parking Garage will remain closed throughout the days of Monday and Wednesday, May 17 and May 19, as well.
