We are hiring for a full time Class A Driver. Our Class A Drivers transport by commercial vehicle, the perishable and non-perishable products between donors, warehouses and affiliated agencies. This position assures compliance with state and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position helps supports our food procurement and rescue operations as well as our member agencies across Western Washington. General Position Summary: Position transports, by commercial vehicle, the perishable and non-perishable products between donors, warehouses and affiliated agencies. The position assures compliance with state and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: · Operates Food Lifeline vehicle(s) in a safe, courteous and legal manner at all times. · Picks up donated perishable and non-perishable products from donor sites or Food Lifeline warehouse. Counts, inspects, and verifies against bill of lading, and loads product into cargo area of vehicle or trailer. · Transports product to designated destinations. Assists with unloading product. · Maintains and submits records and other logs as required. · Conducts required vehicle inspections. · Maintains valid Class A Washington State Driver's License and complies with transportation industry regulations including random drug testing. · You have an excellent driving record. Secondary Functions: · Maintains vehicle in a clean and sanitary condition. · Performs minor repairs on vehicle as assigned; reports damage or needed repairs to Manager. · Submits Bill of Lading in a timely manner. · Participates in special events. · Operates forklift or pallet jack as needed. · Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Job scope: This position: · Has recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. · Has a moderate level of work complexity. · Operates from established and well known procedures. · Performs work under moderate supervision. · Decisions are made within prescribed operating guidelines and procedures. · Budgetary accountability - none. · Management of capital assets - none. · Planning responsibilities - Not responsible for operational or strategic planning. · Supervisory responsibility - none. Interpersonal Contacts: Contacts are primarily with customers and are non-controversial in nature. · Non-customers 5% · Customers 95% · In person 96% · Telephone 2% · Email 2% Specific Job Skills: · Knowledge of applicable transportation industry (DOT) regulations concerning safe driving and maintenance of commercial vehicles. · Knowledge of required vehicle inspections and record keeping. · Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles or semi trucks in a variety of traffic, weather and road conditions. · Knowledge of routine vehicle repair and light maintenance including proper fueling procedures. · Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. · Knowledge of content of bills of lading. · Knowledge of safe, proper food handling procedures. · Ability to operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts and other mechanized warehouse equipment. · Knowledge of proper loading, cargo stacking, tie down and unloading practices. · Ability to maintain good working relationships and to provide good customer service. Education and/or Experience: · High school diplomas or GED required. An equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience may be substituted. · Completion of Truck Driver training program helpful. · Experience in transport of food products helpful. · Valid Class A Washington State Driver's License required with a good and insurable driving record. · Must possess Washington State Food Handler's permit or able to obtain within 30 days of employment. Job Conditions: Position sits for prolonged periods while operating vehicle in a variety of traffic conditions with frequent stops to load and unload product. Position requires a mentally alert status at all times, patience while waiting in traffic or during loading/unloading. Requires ability to maintain calm while maneuvering vehicle in tight spaces or through traffic hazards. Position operates vehicle in a variety of weather and road conditions. Position may be exposed to noise, fumes and/or smells and may be subject to emergency situations such as break-downs or accidents. May require overtime, weekends and evening shifts.
