The Facilities Metal Buyer position is carried out primarily in the warehouse. This person is responsible for greeting customers, grading their material and handling any customer complaints. Must have the ability identify market trends and to negotiate different pricing with regular customers from guidance from the commercial team. The Retail Buyer works closely with operations and the commercial team and reports directly to the Traverse City General Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Identify and grade ferrous and non-ferrous metals • Communicate grading and quality expectations to customers • Follow and understand scrap metal markets and commodity pricing • Understand consumer specifications and ensure that quality meets requirements • Prepare shipping documents and load van trailers accordingly • Excellent communication skills to interact with the general public (customers) • Maintain and develop relationships with customers within the community • Ability to lift up-to 50 pounds • Ability to maintain and meet production schedule for nonferrous metals • Work Outdoors/Indoors regardless of weather • Work well under pressure and ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment • Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency • Willingness to learn • Always demonstrate professional conduct. • Treat all persons with courtesy and respect. • The ability to follow directions and safety regulations. Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma or Equivalent • College Degree preferred • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
