Creating Community During COVID-19: A reading and discussion of Boulder artists' responses to the pandemic This event brings together Boulder-based artists, writers, and performers to talk about how the pandemic has impacted and informed their recent work. First, Carolyn Kerchof will read from current drafts of Boulder COVID Stories, a storytelling and print publishing project (the publication is due out in winter 2021. Second, a panel of Boulder artists will discuss their pandemic experiences and their works in progress, and answer questions from the audience. This event is an opportunity for Boulderites to reflect on the past year together. The audience members will be invited to take an exclusive look at works in progress, explore how the pandemic impacted local artists, and discuss everything from social distancing in dance to visualizing the pandemic in textile art. Part 1: Reading of drafts from the Boulder COVID Stories project: By Carolyn Kerchof Part 2: Panel Discussion about Creating Community During COVID accompanied by Q&A: with Carolyn Kerchof, Heather Schulte, and Erin Tunbridge this will be Moderated by Jennifer Davis-Flynn Carolyn Kerchof Bio: Carolyn is a writer, designer, and zine publisher, and the creator of the Boulder COVID Stories project. She has worked in academic settings, care contexts, and on sustainability initiatives, and has published over 20 magazines and zines, including the intergenerational magazine for storytelling and universal design Zeitgeist, and a memoir about her life in Switzerland titled Bad Hiking. Carolyn is a Fulbright scholar who holds two Master’s degrees, the first in graphic design from the Zurich University of the Arts, and the second in the History and Philosophy of Knowledge from ETH Zurich. Heather Schulte Bio: Heather is an interdisciplinary artist. Her work analyzes the intersection of personal and public forms of language and communication, exposing complex physical and emotional responses to what lives behind the shape of letters, codes, or materials. Her pieces invite viewer interaction through touch, deciphering code, or physical movement in space; this participation in generating meaning expanded into collaborative forms of making through her most recent project, Stitching the Situation. Schulte received her BFA from the University of NE-Lincoln in 2003. She has exhibited throughout Colorado at numerous galleries and contemporary art spaces, such as RedLine Contemporary in Denver, as well as galleries and museums nationally and internationally. Her work has been featured in publications such as Fiber Art Now, the Surface Design Journal, and independent magazines. Erin Tunbridge Bio: An Australian native, Erin is the Founding Director of T2 Dance Company, formerly T2 Dance Project. Before moving to the US, Erin established and directed Zeta Dance Group, a small dance company in Australia, presenting work nationally and internationally. She has been working in dance choreography, teaching, and arts management since 2008. She has taught dance for early childhood, K-12, private dance studios, colleges and universities, and adult community classes. Jennifer Davis-Flynn: Bio: Moderator: Jennifer is a journalist, editor, and vocalist. After launching a career in print newspapers in Russia in the early 2000's, she transitioned to digital media in the United States, where she has run websites for five national magazines, most recently Yoga Journal. She currently performs in a local jazz combo called Jazzebel. Jennifer holds a BA in Slavic Languages from Indiana University and a MA in Arts Journalism from Syracuse University.
