Description

SHOREWOOD, WI — The Village Board will let mask mandates expire at midnight, May 17, deferring to national CDC guidelines. The decision quickly came and went at the tail end of a meeting full of budget items that saw more debate. Nobody from the public commented on the matter. Masks will remain, however, in the Shorewood School District. Children under 12 have yet to receive any emergency use authorization by the FDA. The Shorewood School District strongly encourages kids to get vaccinated, but it will not be required for admission anytime soon, according to District Nurse Kelly Barlow. "Often, people just need time. Time to educate themself, to see how others are affected and process their own views on obtaining the vaccine," Barlow said. In many situations, people who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to wear masks, according to the recent federal guidelines. Businesses will remain free to decide operating practices for themselves.
